Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

Opportunity Snapshot

Pay: $55 - $100 per hour

Location:Fully Remote, Worldwide

You’ll need: Professional experience selecting, editing or retouching images for publication, clients or brands

Your tasks: Review images, choose the best ones, correct technical problems and explain your decisions in writing

You’ll review and edit images and judge their quality, accuracy and fit for a purpose. This is a good fit if you work as a photo editor, picture editor, visual editor or retoucher and make decisions about which images to use and how to correct them.

Scope of Work

  1. Look at sets of images and pick the strongest one for a given purpose.
  2. Judge technical quality: exposure, focus, color, noise and cropping.
  3. Mark images that were altered in a way that changes what they show.
  4. Check that captions and descriptions match what the image actually shows.
  5. Write a short explanation for each decision so a reviewer can follow your reasoning.
  6. Correct or retouch images following a brief.

What we’re looking for

  1. Professional work as a photo editor, picture editor, visual editor, retoucher or photo producer.
  2. Daily use of professional tools such as Lightroom, Photoshop or Capture One.
  3. Experience delivering images to a real audience: print, web, social, broadcast or brand work.
  4. Comfort explaining why one image works and another doesn’t.
  5. Clear written English.

How the selection process works

  1. Apply with your resume and a short profile.
  2. Complete the editing interview. It is a short conversation about your experience with image selection and editing. You don’t need to prepare, look at anything or write anything. Finishing it is what moves your application forward.
  3. Review. We check your experience against what the project needs.
  4. Onboarding and first task. If selected, you get the guidelines and start with an initial task, which is reviewed before you continue.
