Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” <a href="https://www.coinbase.com/careers">learn more about working at Coinbase</a>.</p></div><p>We're hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Native Mobile to join the App Infra team within the <a href="https://www.coinbase.com/careers/product-groups">Consumer & Business</a> group and help lead Coinbase's greenfield native mobile app rewrite. This team is replacing the existing React Native app with native Swift and Kotlin builds, using AI-driven agentic workflows to translate and rebuild every core surface for millions of customers. Your direction will determine how the team works: you'll bring deep iOS or Android expertise to set the technical bar, own quality outcomes, and translate org strategy into the team's technical execution as product teams onboard to native.</p>
<p><strong>What you'll do:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Own end-to-end architecture and delivery of core native app surfaces in Swift and Kotlin, operating at depth across the team's codebases and establishing the constrained architecture and compile-time boundaries that enforce strict quality standards.</li>
<li>Lead the agentic code translation workflow, implementing high-quality automated systems for the team's recurring migration work before asking for headcount, and setting what gets automated versus what stays human across the translation pipeline.</li>
<li>Own developer experience for the native codebase, accelerating every engineer who onboards by improving build speeds, local development workflows, and CI/CD reliability, and by defining the architectural patterns and documentation that make native mobile development at Coinbase a world-class experience.</li>
<li>Shape the dual-app agentic synchronization strategy during the transition, prioritizing the highest-impact outcomes and designing the daily agent automations and human review processes that keep native and React Native codebases in sync.</li>
<li>Become a leader throughout the entire mobile community at Coinbase, defining best practices, mentoring L3-L5 mobile engineers across all teams, and fostering connection and support between all mobile engineers.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Required Skills and Experience:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>8+ years of iOS or Android mobile software engineering experience (Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android), with working proficiency in the other platform and willingness to develop cross-platform fluency, as engineers on this team own both iOS and Android.</li>
<li>Track record of shipping high-quality mobile applications at scale with ownership of architecture decisions, performance budgets, and release quality, with outcomes that would not have happened without your direct involvement.</li>
<li>Deep understanding of mobile performance optimization, including cold start, frame stability, scroll jank, and time to interaction, with experience profiling and tuning across device tiers including low-end Android.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to translate org strategy into team-level technical execution, build alignment across cross-team and cross-functional partners, and secure commitment on migration timelines and quality standards.</li>
<li>Experience with AI-assisted code generation or LLM-driven development workflows, with demonstrated judgment on what to automate and what requires human review.</li>
<li>Experience improving developer experience through build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and release tooling, with improvements adopted beyond your immediate team.</li>
<li>Uses generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable gains in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.</li>
