This is the most significant client platform shift in the company's history, replacing the React Native app with native Swift and Kotlin builds for millions of customers. Coinbase mobile engineers will be expected to support both iOS and Android on their teams using AI-driven agentic translation at unprecedented scale. You'll own outcomes spanning the App Infra team and our ~30 product teams, set our architectural patterns, and relentlessly drive Coinbase towards a novel, world-class mobile development experience.</p>
<p><strong>What you'll do:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Define the technical strategy to make the native app development future at Coinbase a reality.</li>
<li>Lead the AI-assisted migration approach, designing reusable AI-automation paradigms such as agent swarms, automated dual-repo synchronization, and continuous improvement of translation efficiency using automated feedback loops.</li>
<li>Architect a paved-road native framework in Swift and Kotlin that sets the architectural bar across teams, unlocking the ability for a single mobile contributor to be productive in both iOS and Android codebases simultaneously.</li>
<li>Drive organizational readiness as a trusted cross-functional partner with product, design, and engineering leadership, resolving cross-team blockers, de-escalating conflict during the dual-app straddle period, and holding peer leaders to a high bar so their patterns spread across teams.</li>
<li>Mentor L5-L6 engineers, develop the technical leadership pipeline for native mobile, and recruit actively through reputation, ensuring the team excels in your absence and your successor is developing.</li>
<li>Become a leader throughout the entire mobile community at Coinbase, defining best practices and fostering connection and support between all mobile engineers.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Required Skills and Experience:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>12+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in iOS or Android native mobile development (Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android) and strong working proficiency in the other platform, operating at depth across your own and adjacent team codebases.</li>
<li>Track record of owning outcomes spanning 2-3+ teams that drive business impact, including multi-phase platform migrations or rewrites at scale where you shaped strategy and made trade-offs that raised ROI across teams.</li>
<li>Deep mobile performance expertise across iOS and Android, including cold start optimization, frame stability, scroll jank elimination, and device-tier profiling, with experience setting the architectural bar and defining ownership boundaries other teams build against.</li>
<li>Proven influence without authority at senior levels, with experience changing the technical direction of teams outside your own, securing leadership alignment on ambiguous high-stakes decisions, and resolving cross-team blockers using all tools at your disposal.</li>
<li>Experience designing AI-native engineering workflows adopted across teams, including LLM-driven code generation, agent-based automation, or reusable automation patterns that re-implement existing workflows.</li>
<li>Uses generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable gains in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.</li>
