Head of Software Architecture, Embodied AI Platform

About the Role

Lead end-to-end software architecture for a robotics platform that connects, manages, and operates fleets of general-purpose robots. This hands-on leadership role sets technical direction across cloud, edge, frontend, and AI systems while helping grow the software team.

What You'll Do

• Design the platform architecture across robot connectivity, fleet management, AI capabilities, data pipelines, and model training workflows.

• Set technical direction across frontend, backend, robot-side software, and infrastructure, and make key architecture decisions as the team scales.

• Write and review production code, especially while establishing foundational abstractions and early platform architecture.

• Define safe ways to integrate AI agents, chatbots, and fleet-data learning, including guardrails for systems that control physical robots.

• Grow and lead the software platform team, and establish engineering standards and architecture review processes.

What We're Looking For

• At least 8 years of experience in full-stack platform architecture, with ownership of system design across distributed backends and frontend.

• Staff- or principal-level experience architecting platforms for hardware, IoT, connected devices, robotics, or fleet management.

• Experience designing SaaS systems that manage or control physical devices at scale, with architecture spanning edge, cloud, and frontend.

• Recent hands-on production coding experience and ownership of architecture across multiple teams.

• Familiarity with distributed systems, WebSockets, gRPC, pub/sub, real-time communication, APIs, data pipelines, fleet management, and edge-cloud architecture.

• Experience or interest in AI agent systems, including chatbots, tool use, and multi-step planning, and comfort adopting AI tools in development workflows.

• A degree in computer science or a related technical field; startup or early-stage engineering leadership experience is valued.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $250,000 to $400,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.

On-site in Santa Clara, California, United States. Candidates should be based in or willing to relocate to the area.
