We are looking for a Controllership Expert to join Record to Report within Global Service Platform (GSP). GSP provides standardized, cross-functional services that enable the rest of the bank to operate at scale. The Record team processes information from Nubank’s ledgers, translates treasury and product activity into an accounting view, supports daily close and financial analysis, and provides the control foundation for all geographies.

This is an strategic individual contributor role for someone who combines finance and controls expertise with a strong affinity for process, data, and technology. You will act as a central orchestrator across the Record organization, partnering with functional managers and senior stakeholders to manage cross-team projects, establish delivery metrics, and consolidate reconciliation goals and performance.

The role is designed for someone who can operate autonomously, bring structure to ambiguous agendas, and lead through influence without direct people-management responsibility. You will help the leadership team focus on product and service lines by creating a reliable operating system for controls, projects, metrics, and continuous improvement.

This role is based in São Paulo, Brazil, and works across a global organization serving Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and other Nubank geographies.

• Manage a portfolio of cross-team Record to Report and controllership projects, translating strategic priorities into clear plans, milestones, owners, dependencies, risks, and governance.

• Track delivery commitments and create the metrics, dashboards, and communication cadences that give leaders a clear view of progress, bottlenecks, risks, and decisions required.

• Consolidate reconciliation metrics across processes, entities, accounts, and teams, creating common definitions for completion, timeliness, aging, breaks, materiality, root cause, and remediation.

• Partner with process owners and managers to define reconciliation goals, leading indicators, thresholds, and action plans, and lead recurring performance reviews.

• Identify recurring breaks, delays, and control gaps and coordinate root-cause remediation across process, data, system, and operational teams.

• Establish scalable operating mechanisms for controls, close readiness, issue management, and follow-up to reduce dependence on manual tracking and one-off heroics.

• Work with Finance Platform, Finance Systems, Data, Engineering, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, Internal Audit, Risk, and other partners to improve tools, workflows, data quality, and operational visibility.

• Translate complex financial and operational topics into concise narratives, viable options, trade-offs, and clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.

• Clarify accountability and decision rights using practical mechanisms such as RACI or RAPID when work spans multiple teams.

• Support the evolution of Record’s operating model as new global processes, including tax compliance activities, are brought into the organization.

• Turn successful improvements into repeatable standards, playbooks, and ways of working that can be adopted across geographies.

Required

• Significant experience in controllership, accounting operations, financial close, reconciliations, controls, risk, finance operations, or a related discipline.

• A degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Other backgrounds may also be considered when paired with strong, relevant experience.

• A track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from an ambiguous problem statement through implementation and sustained adoption.

• Strong understanding of processes and controls, with the judgment to balance accounting accuracy, control quality, operational efficiency, and delivery speed.

• Experience designing metrics, setting goals, analyzing performance, identifying root causes, and turning data into decisions and measurable improvements.

• Advanced English communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with global teams and stakeholders.

• Practical familiarity with data analysis using Python and SQL. You do not need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable understanding data, working with technical partners, and using these tools to investigate and improve processes.

• Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior partners without direct authority.

• A high degree of autonomy, confidence, and ownership: someone who can take an agenda forward, bring ideas, circulate effectively among managers, and ask for support when a decision truly requires escalation.

• Comfort working as a senior individual contributor and interested in growing through an expert career path rather than requiring formal people management.

Nice to Have

• Experience in a technology company, fintech, bank, shared-services environment, or a global organization with complex financial operations.

• Experience with finance systems, ledgers, reconciliation platforms, workflow tools, automation, or data products.

• Experience supporting daily or near-real-time close, tax compliance processes, audit readiness, or multi-geography controllership.

• Product, program, or project management experience, especially in roles that required coordinating multiple teams and turning broad priorities into execution.

• Experience in reducing recurring exceptions, manual effort, cycle time, or rework through process redesign and automation.

• A practical, generalist mindset: the ability to move between finance, controls, data, technology, and stakeholder problems while maintaining rigor.
