About the Role

Our Engineering team helps Nu create and scale the technology that powers the best financial products in Latin America. We strive for state-of-the-art software development practices, using a variety of technologies and architectures to build resilient, secure, and highly scalable systems.

As a Lead Software Engineer , you will serve as a technical authority across entire business domains, shaping company-wide engineering strategy and driving the architectural evolution of large-scale distributed systems that power our core platform for tens of millions of customers. While we value experience with our tech stack, we are confident that top-tier technical leaders who are eager to learn will thrive here — and we will support your mastery of Clojure as our main backend language.

You’ll be Responsible for

1. Architectural Leadership: Defining long-term technical vision and architecture roadmaps across business area, balancing immediate business goals with long-term system sustainability.

2. Strategic Alignment: Partnering with Leaders to translate team business strategy into scalable engineering systems and technical bets.

3. Engineering Excellence: Setting and raising the technical bar for the entire engineering organization through systemic improvements, architectural reviews, and best-practice frameworks.

4. High-Impact Execution: Hands-on leadership in designing, prototyping, and executing on the most complex, high-risk, or foundational systems in the company.

5. Mentorship & Talent Growth: Mentoring engineers

6. Cross-Organizational Resilience: Establishing team practices for observability, failure domain isolation, disaster recovery, and incident resolution for critical systems

 What We're Looking For Someone Who Has

1. Extensive Experience: 8+ years of experience engineering complex digital products

2. Domain-Scale Expertise: Mastery of distributed systems design, microservices, cloud-native architectures, and failure-mode analysis in systems handling high concurrency and millions of active users.

3. Cross-Team Influence: Demonstrated history of steering large-scale technical initiatives, aligning competing priorities across multiple engineering teams.

4. Leadership & Sponsorship: Experience mentoring engineers

5. Business Acumen & Communication: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical trade-offs, risk profiles, and architectural decisions

6. Language Proficiency: Advanced English skills (both written and spoken)
