About the Role

Join an early-stage AI product startup as its first engineering hire and technical partner to the founder. You will build reliable agent-based products from the ground up, guide early technical decisions, and help shape the engineering team as the company grows.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and ship AI agents and supporting systems for planning, tool use, memory, orchestration, and evaluation.

  • Develop the harnesses, evaluations, and observability needed to make agentic products dependable.

  • Own the technical roadmap and architecture in partnership with the founder.

  • Work directly with early customers and use their feedback to inform product development.

  • Support product-led go-to-market through demos, technical sales conversations, and developer-facing content.

  • Hire and lead early engineers as the team grows.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience, with strong skills in Python and/or TypeScript; the role is suited to candidates with roughly 3 to 10 or more years of experience.

  • Hands-on experience building and operating AI agents or agent harnesses in production, beyond prototypes or demos.

  • Strong software engineering foundations, including APIs, distributed systems, and data pipelines.

  • Familiarity with LLM systems and tools such as tool calling, structured outputs, RAG, evaluations, and, where relevant, fine-tuning or reinforcement learning.

  • A degree from a highly regarded university or experience at a leading AI lab or AI-first company, or comparable background.

  • Early-stage startup experience, a founder mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and interest in commercial as well as technical work.

  • Published research or notable open-source contributions in agents or LLM systems are valued.
