Position Overview

The Director of AI & Technology will lead viaPeople's adoption of AI across our product, engineering team and day-to-day operations. Reporting to the VP of Operations, you'll turn AI from an idea into practical tools and workflows that make our team faster and our clients better served.

This is a hands-on role. You'll set direction, but you'll also write prompts, evaluate tools, prototype solutions and roll up your sleeves alongside our engineers. You'll help modernize how we build software, raise the bar on engineering standards and security, and spot new AI-enabled opportunities for our business.

Core ResponsibilitiesAI Strategy & Adoption

• Serve as viaPeople's go-to expert on AI, keeping up with new models, tools and trends and translating them into practical recommendations.
• Partner with the VP of Operations to shape and carry out our AI roadmap.
• Build AI into our software development lifecycle, including planning, coding, testing, documentation, deployment and support.
• Evaluate, pilot and roll out AI tools that improve engineering productivity, software quality, client experience and operational efficiency.
• Help teams beyond engineering (client services, sales, operations) find and adopt AI tools that make their work easier.
• Identify opportunities to add AI-powered features to our products that create real value for clients.

Technology & Engineering Standards

• Recommend and help maintain standards for architecture, security, infrastructure and code quality, with the rigor our financial services clients expect.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps that keep our platform scalable, modern and maintainable.
• Track simple, meaningful engineering metrics and use them to drive improvement.
• Support client security reviews and questionnaires related to AI and data handling.

Team Leadership & Enablement

• Coach and mentor engineers as they adopt AI-first ways of working.
• Partner on hiring, onboarding and development of technical talent.
• Run training, demos and working sessions that build AI confidence across the company.
• Model a culture of curiosity, accountability, speed and continuous improvement.

New Opportunities & Special Projects

• Prototype and test new AI-enabled products or features, from early concept through launch.
• Build reusable AI capabilities that can be applied across multiple products and internal workflows.
• Support technical review of potential partners, vendors or acquisitions when needed.

What You Bring

• 7+ years in software engineering or technical roles, including 2+ years leading or mentoring engineers.
• Hands-on experience applying AI tools in real work: AI coding assistants, LLM APIs, prompt design, and workflow automation.
• Solid grounding in modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure and security practices.
• A track record of driving adoption of new tools or processes across a team.
• Experience in B2B SaaS preferred; exposure to financial services or HR technology is a plus.
